Oscars 2014 Red Carpet Photos: Best and Worst Dressed at the 86th Academy Awards

"12 Years a Slave" actress Lupita Nyong'o looked ethereal in a powder blue Prada gown, while "American Hustle" star Jennifer Lawrence opted for a red number by Dior. Between the two of them, Lupita's look really carried the night.

"Gravity" star Sandra Bullock looked sweet and sophisticated in a no-nonsense navy blue ball gown by Alexander McQueen, with her hair done in soft, side-swept curls. Her look was classic Old Hollywood and, in short, complete Academy Awards red carpet perfection.

Our vote for worst dressed on the Oscars red carpet has to go to Whoopi Goldberg and her odd shirt-dress ensemble. We're not even sure how to describe it, except that it looked like a bizarre take on an already-questionable dress Julia Roberts recently wore to the Golden Globes.

Whoopi's black-and-white striped stockings and glittering red high heels (a cheeky tribute to the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz", honored during the Oscars presentation) only added to the overall off-the-wall effect.

Our best dressed pick from the Oscars 2014 would have been a toss-up between Lupita, Sandra and Charlize Theron in her black mermaid-style Christian Dior creation (see photo above). Until we saw Pink perform. We love, love, loved Pink in her ruby-slipper send-up gown. (Ellen DeGeneres in her Good Witch costume was a close second, of course.)

The men on the red carpet kept it simple for the most part, in dark tuxedos and crisp white shirts. An exception, Oscar-winning "Dallas Buyers Club" actor Jared Leto, who donned a white tuxedo and red bow-tie for the Academy Awards this year.
