Oscars 2013 predictions for winners: Richard Roeper and Roger Ebert weigh in (Video)

The Oscars 2013 predictions for winners are in from movie critics Richard Roeper and Roger Ebert. With the Academy Awards showing on TV this Sunday evening, plenty of movie fans are eager to see which of the nominees become big winners in 2013.

A report from The Sun Times on Feb. 18 gives Roeper's updated Oscar award winner predictions. Roeper has selected "Argo" to edge out "Lincoln" in the Best Picture category. He picks Jennifer Lawrence to continue her role as the favorite, winning for Best Actress for the movie "Silver Linings Playbook." Roeper believes Robert DeNiro will also win an award for his role in the same movie, besting Tommy Lee Jones in the Best Supporting Actor category. He believes Anne Hathaway is the clear-cut favorite for Best Supporting Actress since she's won every other movie award for "Les Miserables" so far.

Roeper says of the Best Actor category, there's only one logical choice:

"Daniel Day-Lewis pretty much won Best Actor when the poster for “Lincoln” was unveiled. He’s the best living actor in the world, and it will be a monumental upset if anyone else wins. Going up against Day-Lewis is the acting equivalent of making the NBA Finals when Michael Jordan was in his prime. You know you’re destined for runner-up status. Hugh Jackman is the closest contender. But Day-Lewis should win and will win."

Meanwhile, Roger Ebert, also of The Sun Times, gave his Oscar predictions not long ago. Ebert is agreeing with Roeper on most of his main picks including Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence and "Argo" for Best Picture. However, he has chosen Tommy Lee Jones to take Best Supporting Actor for "Lincoln," whereas Roeper liked DeNiro in "Silver Linings Playbook." Both critics also like Steven Spielberg to win for Best Director for "Lincoln." It would make his first Oscar win in about 15 years. He previously won for "Saving Private Ryan."

The 2013 Academy Awards, hosted by Seth MacFarlane, with all the Oscars nominees and winners, will be seen on TV on Sunday, Feb. 24. Viewers can watch on ABC via Roanoke's local affiliate station WSET 13 starting at 7 p.m. EST.
