Oscars 2013: Argo wins Best Picture but Life of Pi ruled the night

Argo took home the Best Picture prize at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. The event was held at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, California and millions watched as director Ben Affleck gave a tearful speech about not holding grudges and not giving up. This was Affleck's second Oscar. He previously won for writing for his freshman film Good Will Hunting with pal Matt Damon. However, he wasn't the only big story of the night.

Life of Pi took home four awards including best director, achievement in cinematography, best original score and achievement in visual effects. Director Ang Lee thanked "the movie god" for his best director award, which was appropriate since Affleck was famously snubbed in the best director category.

Daniel Day-Lewis unsurprisingly took home Best Actor for his role in Lincoln and Jennifer Lawrence at the age of 22 took home Best Actress. She also tripped and fell onto the Oscars stage steps before receiving the award but in typical Lawrence style she laughed it off and then told a self-deprecating joke.

Anne Hathaway took home Supporting Actress for her work in Les Miserables and Christoph Waltz won for Django Unchained.
