Oscar Wrap-Up

In what was probably one of the most entertaining telecasts since the year of "Titanic," the Academy Awards provided more than just glitz and glamour this year. Host Ellen DeGeneres came out on top with an absurdist-style routine that included ordering pizza for the audience and collecting tips for the delivery guy.

As for the recipients, there was nothing too shocking. Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey won the leading acting awards while Lupita Nyong'o and Jared Leto won the supportings. "Gravity" swept the technical awards, as well as best director for Alfonso Cuaron.

Though one of the most nominated films, "American Hustle" walked away with nothing. Spike Jonze picked up the award for Original Screenplay for "Her," while John Ridley walked away with the Adapated Screenplay Oscar for "12 Years a Slave."

A hot list of presenters this year including Kate Hudson, Emma Watson, Channing Tatum, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith and Jim Carrey added variety and much more needed laughter than usual.

Though "Gravity," was the last minute favorite for Best Picture, it was "12 Years a Slave" that accepted the honor.

Coming in at just about 3 1/2 hours, the event was filled with non-stop fun and little distractions. One of the most endearing moments was that no matter how long the acceptance speech (Yes, that's you, Mr. McConaughey), no one was played off. Future Oscar ceremonies should take this as a lesson. This is how the Oscars should be.
