Oscar winners for 2013 includes Jennifer Lawrence who won Best Actress for her role as Tiffany Maxwell in "Silver Linings Playbook" at the 85th Academy Awards held on Feb. 24, 2013 on ABC. The 22-year-old Lawrence, raised in Louisville, Ky., is one of the youngest people to win the Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the Oscars. Marlee Matlin won it at 21 for "Children of a Lesser God."
"This is nuts!" exclaimed Lawrence. The actress also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, among others.
"I never did theater or took classes, which I think has helped me. I just had instincts and they were right," said Lawrence, who has had a stellar career as a young actress. She was nominated for and won many awards for her role as Ree Dolly in the 2010 "Winter's Bone." She also received critical acclaim and nominations and awards for her role as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games."
Lawrence was determined to make it as an actress, despite what her parents had to say about it. "My parents were the exact opposite of stage parents. They did everything in their power to keep it from happening. But it was going to happen no matter what. I was like, 'Thanks for raising me, but I'm going to take it from here.'"
