Proving once again that, at times, there's a shortage of reality enemas in Hollywood, the 85th annual Academy Award nominations were unveiled today by Oscar host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone.
The gross oversights on the list: Ben Affleck (Argo) and Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) were snubbed Best Director noms. Meanwhile John Hawkes was overlooked for his sublime work in director Ben Lewin's The Sessions.
Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg, led this year's pack with 12 nominations, but already, the buzz seems to be rising for Bradley Cooper. Could the man be this year's Oscar darling? The actor, and his film, Silver Linings Playbook, received eight nominations. I was not a fan of Cooper in Playbook—I did not find that he believed the role he was playing, and that the film was manufactured for him, but I digress. Still, the impressionable Jennifer Lawrence also grabbed top honors for that same movie, so perhaps the Universe knows what it is doing.
Beasts of the Southern Wild, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Amour (so divine, so deserving) and Django Unchained also topped the list. Missing? Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. It was certainly deserving of a nod, but in the meantime, take a look at the honorees:
