The Oscar nominations for the 2013 Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, and the nominees for best director include new and established talent.
While some directors who were expected to make the list ended up falling short, the ones that got nominated seemed to be well deserved. The veterans that scored big were Steven Spielberg for "Lincoln" and Ang Lee for the bestselling book adaptation of "Life of Pi."
As for the lesser known directors that snagged nominations, they are David O. Russell for the highly acclaimed comedy-drama "Silver Linings Playbook," Michael Haneke for "Amour" and Benh Zeitlin for "Beasts of the Southern Wild."
Meanwhile, one director that was expected to get their first Oscar nomination for directing a film and was denied the privilege was Ben Affleck. However, he failed to do so and some have said he was snubbed by the Academy. But, the well-liked actor did manage to get his movie, "Argo," nominated for best film.
