Here are my Oscar Predictions about who I think will win vs who I think should win:
Best Picture: will win: Silver Linings Playbook vs should win: Beast of the Southern Wild
I think Silver Lining has a really good chance of winning because of Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence who both gave surprisingly different performances than what people are used to seeing from them. Beast of the Southern Wild should win because this movie was on everyone's must see list but may be too small of a movie to overcome all of the bigger named movies on the list.
Actor in Leading Role: will win: Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables) vs should win: Bradley Cooper(Silver Linings Playbook)
I think that Hugh delivered a moving performance and hopefully will be able to beat Daniel Day-Lewis( Lincoln) but definitely think that the votes will be close and could go either way. I love Bradley Cooper and he has come a long, long way from Wedding Crashers and Wet Hot American Summer and deserves to win. He really stepped out of his bubble and did a movie that wasn't showy or loud but just something raw, human and amazing.
Actress in Leading Role: will win: Jessica Chastain(Zero Dark Thirty) vs should win:Quvenzhane Wallis(Beast of the Southern Wild)
Chastain made this movie about the killing of Osama Bin Laden. She was the reason this movie was enjoyable and deserves the Oscar for it. Quvenzhane Wallis also made her movie and honestly should win because literally everyone in the industry was talking about her and the movie. She most likely won't win because of how young she is which really shouldn't matter. Simply, if your performance is powerful you should win.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Robert De Niro(Silver Linings Playbook)
I love this man and think that he is an amazing actor. I think he will win and should win because he is De Niro and he is from New York where we create Oscar winners here.
Actress in a Supporting Role: will win: Anne Hathaway(Les Miserables) vs should win:Amy Adams(The Master)
Both women have come a long way from their Disney movie days and they both deserve to win. I think Anne Hathaway's performance was powerful and when she cried and sang her heart out in the movie, I cried too. But, her being an amazing actor isn't a surprise, she has been gearing up for this role ever since she stopped doing Disney movies and was in Brokeback Mountain. Amy Adams however is a surprise to me every time I see her in something that is serious. She was good in the Fighter and she constantly gets confused for Isla Fisher(Wedding Crashers), at least by me. So whenever I see her in a serious movie I love it.
Animated Feature Film: Brave
All I am going to say about this movie is that the preview for it made me cry when the main character says, “If you could change your destiny, wouldn't you?” It deserves the Oscar for that alone.
Costume Design: will win: Les Miserables vs should win: Anna Karenina
I love movies that recreate outfits from the period they are portraying with such skill that it makes you feel you are in that period of time and so do the Oscar voters, so either film could win.
Directing: First I want to say that I am protesting this category because Ben Affleck should have been nominated. But since he isn't, I honestly don't know who will or should win. I feel like this is the toughest category. Steven Spielberg is a genius and everyone knows that. David Russell took two well known actors and pushed them to their limits and made a great movie. Ang Lee's movie Life of Pi was amazing and had the misfortune of coming out during a year when there were a lot of other amazing movies. This is anyone's category.
