Oscar Pistorius: Considered not a flight risk and bail granted

Oscar Pistorius got lucky this morning in court. The judge decided he was not a flight risk and decided to have bail granted at $28,500. According to TMZ on Feb. 22, Pistorius’ family were overjoyed that he was given bail.

The judge believes that Pistorius is not a flight risk. He does not believe Pistorius will flee the country considering his fame as a double amputee. Pistorius’ lawyer also made note that going through security would trigger multiple alarms.

The judge also found that Pistorius did not have a propensity for violence. The judge doubts that he will kill again while out on bail. The judge did raise a very interesting question for the prosecutor. The judge said if the Pistorius believed there was an intruder in the bathroom, why did he not stage a break-in to make his story more believable? The prosecutor responded with:

“The fact that we have only one survivor of that tragic night is difficult for the state.”

Pistorius’ lawyer has asked for the charge to be lowered to “culpable homicide.” This means the lawyer believes it was more of a tragic mistake.

Oscar Pistorius may have the judge on his side believing he is not a flight risk, but lets just hope that judge is right. Pistorius’ story just doesn’t add up with the evidence. Hopefully there will be justice for Reeva Steenkamp. Do you think Pistorius should have been granted bail? Sound off in comments below.
