Last week during the bail hearing for Oscar Pistorius, one person was at his side the entire time, his brother Carl Pistorius. This week Oscar gets to return the favor as Carl Pistorius is facing culpable homicide charges.
Carl Pistorius appeared in court for the first time two days before brother Oscar’s bail hearing began in the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Both men were represented by the same attorney, Kenny Oldwage.
Carl Pistorius caused an accident about an hour south of Johannesburg in 2010. In the car versus motorcycle crash the female motorcyclist was killed.
At the time of the accident, Carl Pistorius was charged with reckless or negligent driving. The charges were provisionally withdrawn and refilled as culpable homicide.
Officials determined that alcohol did not play a part in the accident. Pistorius’ attorney confirmed that his client is due back in court in March.
Kenny Oldwage stated that his client was not driving recklessly when the accident occurred and is confident that Carl Pistorius will be acquitted of all charges.
The Pistorius family issued a statement, “Carl deeply regrets the accident. Blood tests conducted by the police at the time proved that he had not been under the influence of alcohol, confirming that it was a tragic road accident after the deceased collided with Carl’s car.”
