Oscar season is upon us. It's time to put in your bids. From films heavily inspired by the history of early cinema ("The Artist" and "Hugo") to race dynamics in the 1960s South ("The Help") to the eccentricities of family life and coping with the unexpected ("The Descendents"), this year's batch of nominees are uniquely diverse. This is how I see it.
Best Picture -- "The Artist" (Though I hope they choose "Hugo")
Actor in a Leading Role -- Jean Dujardin ("The Artist")
Actress in a Leading Role -- Viola Davis ("The Help")
Actor in a Supporting Role -- Jonah Hill ("Moneyball")
Actress in a Supporting Role -- Bérénice Bejo
Animated Feature Film -- I have not seen any of the films in this category. However, if I were to guess based on buzz, I would say "Rango." Though the interational submissions "Chico & Rita" and "A Cat in Paris" might offer a surprise win.
Cinematography -- "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
Art Direction -- "Hugo"
Directing -- Alexander Payne ("The Descendents"). Though I hope it goes to either Martin Scorsese for "Hugo" or Michel Hazanavicius for "The Artist."
Music (Original Score) -- "The Artist"
Sound Editing -- "Drive"
Writing (Adapted Screenplay) -- "The Descendants." Though I hope "Hugo" wins in this category.
Writing (Original Screenplay) -- "Bridesmaids"
I omitted a few categories. To view the full list of nominees, please visit: http://oscar.go.com/nominees
