Oscar Nominees: Who Deserves the Gold?
With the Oscar Awards right around the corner, curiosity is peeking about who will win the Best Actor Award. Check out the Nominees:
Denzel Washington - Flight – Our favorite actor starred as Whip Whitaker, a pilot with a substance abuse problem who attempts to save the lives of the passengers of flight 227. The idea for the film was inspired by actual events of a tragedy of Alaska airlines Flight 261 that crashed because of a broken jackscrew in which there were no survivors. The film was full of passion, realism and depicted an image of honor that we are used to seeing Denzel display. Director Robert Zemekis delivered a great film that will be added to Washington’s long list of memorable movie roles.
Bradley Cooper – Most famous for The Hangover Part 1, 2 and soon to be Part 3 and Limitless, Brad’s blue eyes captivates the hearts of many women and his talents impress the harshest critics. He is nominated for his role as Pat in Silver Linings Playbook. Robert De Niro, Chris Tucker and Jennifer Lawrence support the role of Pat, a man who is released from a mental institution after being treated for bipolar disorder. The film is a romantic comedy & drama that warms the hearts of its viewers and has plenty of laughs to go around.
Joaquin Phoenix – Most known for his roles in Gladiator, Walk the Line, and Hotel Rwanda (2004), he is now nominated for his role in The Master. He plays a guy named Freddy Quell who is an alcoholic World War II veteran who is addicted to sex and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Throughout the film he suffers from alcoholism and reacts by getting into fights and having sex. He stumbles across a movement known only as ‘The Cause’ and joins in an attempt to recover from a life of suffering, violence and addiction.
Daniel-Day Lewis – Nominated for his role in the famous movie Lincoln, Lewis has a very excellent chance at winning against the other runners. Lincoln is a popular film that costars Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field. The film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Actor. Steven Spielberg did an excellent job with this film and it shows! This film has a worldwide gross of $235,712,546. Yes, that is a lot of money.
Hugh Jackman – Les Miserables was a classic film starring our favorite guy, Hugh Jackman. His acting skills may have been overlooked due to his less popular roles in the X-Men films but the fact that he is nominated for an Oscar goes to show sometimes it isn’t the actor, it is the script!
So besides what seems to be a list of Hollywood’s most attractive men, another theme seems to be arising in Hollywood lately: Heroes with drug/substance abuse issues who either come out on top like Whit Whipman or has a long road to recovery like Freddy Quell. These great actors are going to be up for the gold on ABC on February 24th at 7:00 p.m. eastern time.
