Oscar nominees George Clooney Viola Davis have something else in common (VIDEO)

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air live in just 2 days on February 26th.  Yesterday, February 23rd, ABC Publicity released a series of ‘Oscar Sunday’ videos featuring Oscar nominees and various film and television stars sharing their most memorable movie experiences and their Oscar Sunday plans.

In the attached video, some of this year’s Oscar nominees name their favorite movies and movie moments.  Best Actor nominee George Clooney (‘The Descendants’) and Best Actress Nominee Viola Davis (‘The Help) both name ‘Network’.

Clooney says, ‘My favorite movie of all time is ‘Network’.

Davis quotes a line in the film saying, ‘I’m just mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore.  It was just a revelation.’

‘Network’ was released in 1976 and is a satirical film about a fictional TV network.  It won the Best Picture Oscar in 1977 and also swept Best Actor Peter Finch, Best Actress Faye Dunaway, Best Supporting Actress Beatrice Straight and Best Screenplay Paddy Chayefsky.

It turns out that Davis and Clooney have other things in common as well:

  • They both had humble beginnings in their lives before acting,
  • They both appeared in the 2005 film ‘Syriana’ (though Davis was uncredited)
  • They both took home Critics' Choice Awards this year.
  • They both received Golden Globe nominations this year.
  • They both appeared in 2 films that received Oscar nominations this year, in addition to their personal Oscar nominations.

George Clooney starred in ‘The Descendants’ (Best Picture, Clooney for Best Actor) and ‘The Ides of March’ (Best Adapted Screenplay’).

Viola Davis starred in ‘The Help’’ (Best Picture, Davis for Best Actress) and ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ (Best Picture).

Audrey Hale of Flint is a huge Oscar fan and happens to be rooting for Clooney and Davis in their categories this year.  She said:

‘I loved Viola in ‘The Help’, the pays such beautiful tribute to the women in that place and time in our history.  And ‘The Descendants’ was a different kind of role for George Clooney.  I’m rooting for both of them this Sunday.  I was right with Colin Firth and ‘The King’s Speech’ last year.  We’ll see if I can get it right 2 years in a row.’

The 84th Academy Awards air live this Sunday, February 26th in Flint on WJRT ABC12 at 7 PM EST.
