The Academy Awards luncheon was held on Monday, February 6, 2012, according to a press release from the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Eighteen of the 20 nominees in the acting categories will be among more than 150 Oscar nominees gathered at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California for a luncheon honoring this year's Oscar contenders at its annual Nominees Luncheon.
The luncheon was a gathering for the nominees prior to the awards presentation being held later in the month. The 84h Academy Awards will be presented on February 26, 2012. The Oscar presentation will be televised live on ABC. 84th Academy Award nominations led by Hugo and The Artist.
Attendees from the Best Actress and Actor categories included: Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), SAG Award winner Viola Davis (The Help), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo),Golden Glove winner Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Golden Globe winner Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn), Demián Bichir (A Better Life), Golden Globe winner George Clooney (The Descendants), Golden Globe winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Brad Pitt (Moneyballs).
Attendees from the Supporting Actor and Actress categories include: Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close), Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs) and Golden Globe winner Octavia Spencer (The Help).
Three of the five nominees in the Directing category attented, including: Directors Guild winner Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants) and Martin Scorsese (Hugo).
Academy Awards® for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
