“Argo”
“Beasts of the Southern Wild”

Christoph Waltz for “Django Unchained”

Best Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams for “The Master”
Sally Field for “Lincoln”
Anne Hathaway for “Les Misérables”
Helen Hunt for “The Sessions”
Jackie Weaver for “Silver Linings Playbook”

There were a few notable surprises and snubs. While “Django Unchained” has received much praise and netted two nominations including Best Picture, Quentin Tarantino was not nominated for Best Director (although he did get a nomination for Best Original Screenplay). Other surprise snubs in the directing category are Katherine Bigelow for “Zero Dark Thirty,” Ben Affleck for “Argo,” and Tom Hooper for “Les Misérables.”

In the acting categories I was shocked to see no nomination for John Hawkes for his work in “The Sessions.” His performance has been heavily praised and he has received a Golden Globe and independent Spirit Award nomination for his amazing work. I was also a little shocked to see no nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio for “Django Unchained.”

Likely the biggest surprise was “Amour” which has gotten critical acclaim and did win big at Cannes, but has gotten little mainstream recognition here in the states. With five nominations it is suddenly on the map.

The biggest winner overall is "Lincoln" which received 12 nominations in all.

The Oscars air live February 24, 2013 at 7p.m. EST on ABC. Tune in to see who will take home the golden statues.
