Marketing Director for NCG Cinemas, Michigan, Pat O’Boyle confirmed today, January 25th, that the Oscar nominated Best Picture ‘The Descendants’ will open in the Flint area this Friday, January 27th at NCG Trillium Cinemas in Grand Blanc. It originally opened on November 16, 2011 in limited release.
The film stars George Clooney, who is nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role as Matt King. Clooney has already won the Critic's Choice and Golden Globe Awards for this role.
In total, ‘The Descendants’ received 5 Oscar nominations this year, including Best Director for Alexander Payne, Best Adapted Screenplay and Editing.
The IMDB plot summary states ‘A land baron tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident. Box Office Mojo reports a Domestic Gross of $51,740,698 and a Worldwide Gross of $61,640,698.
O’Boyle also stated that at this time, ‘The Descendants’ is the only Oscar nominated limited release film slated to open in Grand Blanc. But, this decision is subject to changing leading into and following the Oscars in February. Best Picture contenders ‘War Horse’ and ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ are currently playing in Grand Blanc and according to O’Boyle, they will stay there a while.
He also confirmed ‘The Iron Lady’, ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ and ‘The Artist’ are all currently playing at NCG Lansing. And, although it is a silent film, O’ Boyle said ‘The Artist’ is 'doing very well’ at that location.
