The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is on a road trip across the United States to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Wienermobile tradition that started in 1988. This weekend, Jan. 19 and 20, will see the Wienermobile making stops at the Kroger Store located at 2260 18 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Anggie-Dogg and Kevin Bacon Bits will be at Kroger from Noon-4:00 p.m. both days.
Everyone remembers the Oscar Mayer Hot Dog song and Wienermobile. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was created by Mr. Mayer's nephew, Carl G. Mayer, to promote and advertise Oscar Mayer meats. There have been many versions since 1936 when the first Wienermobile was built by General Body Company located at that time in Chicago Ill. There is a 1950’s version on display at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.
Each year the Mayer Company receives hundreds of applications from college grads to become one of 12 “Hotdoggers” trained to drive the Wienermobile. The “Hotdoggers” travel in pairs making visits throughout their designated area of the United States. Information at Wikipedia reports that both current hotdoggers and Oscar Mayer recruiters visit college campuses across the country in search of the next round of hotdoggers. Candidates are college seniors and are screened from an average of 2000 applicants. Every March, thirty final-round candidates are brought to Kraft Foods and Oscar Mayer headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, for interviews. Each vehicle can hold two hotdoggers, and twelve people are chosen. Currently there are about 300 hotdogger alumni. The life of a hotdogger lasts one year, from June to June.
Promotional email received from Anggela Pimentel Warston a.k.a. Anggie-Dogg, detailed the Wienermobile events in Michigan. Notice all the references to miscellaneous hot dog related items.
My name is Anggie-Dogg and my fellow Hotdogger Kevin Bacon Bits and I are driving the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile! We are on a journey across the U.S. to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Wienermobile tradition since (1988). We will be making a stop in Northern Michigan area on January 19-27.
We will be going to grocery stores around the area and we would love to meat people from the community, showing the Wienermobile, and hand out collectible Wiener Whistles. We would really appreciate it if you could help spread the word about our visit to Michigan. Some people have been waiting a lifetime to see the Wienermobile, so we want to make sure everyone knows we're in town! We want to share this good news with the community and spread smiles around the city. Ketchup with us and we would let you have exclusive tour of the Wienermobile!
