The 2013 Sundance Film Festival conclude on Sunday with the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Feature Film awarded to "Fruitvale" director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler.
"Fruitvale" tells the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family and strangers on the last day of 2008. Its based on the infamous BART police shooting of Oscar Grant.
The film stars Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Melonie Diaz, Ahna O'Reilly, Kevin Durand, and Chad Michael Murray.
Coogler is a 26-year-old filmmaker from the Bay Area and a graduate of the MFA program at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.
