Award season has wrapped up with last night's Academy Awards. The fashion world has been buzzing for weeks about the event, speculating who would be wearing what, forecasting red carpet trends; and the ladies of Hollywood certainly didn't disappoint.
While it is fun to watch the red carpet fashion, very few are lucky enough to have somewhere to wear such amazing gowns. Yet, you can still get a dose of the Oscar glamour in your own life, by taking the evening's trends and translating them to every day wear.
Neutral Colors
Nude was certainly the color of the evening! From Demi Moore's strapless blush Atelier Versace gown to Miley Cyrus' champagne strapless Jenny Peckham dress with a bustier bodice; the ladies were showing up in skin tone gowns. With feminine detailing like the semi-sheer floral embroidery on Sandra Bullock's gold metallic Marchesa piece, or the floral detailing on Anna Kendrick's off the shoulder peach Elie Saab frock; the dresses looked pretty and demure.
To get the look in a more work appropriate manner, trying layering a blush colored sequined tank under a khaki or white blazer. Find a fabulous pale pink tank top with gold sequins at the H&M in Woodbury Lakes for under $30. Or try American Eagle for a pale pink tank with mesh overlay ($39.50)
Ruffles and draping
The true art of fashion was on display list night with the beautiful fabric manipulation on the gowns. Vera Farmiga donned a rich wine-colored Marchesa gown with amazing ruffle detail, while Penelope Cruz was stunning in her red ruched Donna Karan Couture gown. Gorgeous ruffles danced around Elizabeth Banks in her fitted Atelier Versace gown.
Ruffles and draping are a great way to add a flirty touch to this season's tough utility pieces. Try letting a ruffled top (like this floral tank from Express) peek out from under the Utility Shirtdress from Gap.
Pretty patterns
Rachel McAdams stood out this year with her Elie Saab watercolor strapless dress. The colors and layers were light and airy, and McAdams appeared to float down the red carpet.
