Oscar night was a night of glitz and glam. While it was a night to celebrate the best in films, let's focus on one of the most important aspects of the night. It is all about the gowns. Oscar night fashion is a big spotlight of the night. There were many beautifully dressed women in the most fantastic gowns. There were also some very big fashion faux pas.
In particular was the dress wore by Melissa McCarthy. She is such a beautiful woman, but she was in a dress by a designer who apparently does not know how to design for bigger women. The only way to describe the dress is hideous. It looked like it was made by a reject who never made it on to Project Runway because they can't design or sew.
The dress alone is proof that most designers and clothing companies still just cannot figure out how to dress plus size women. One would think a celebrity client would be a big incentive to be sure that they looked and felt fabulous in a designers garment. The David Meister dress worn by Melissa McCarthy was unflattering. The color would have been fine had the cut of the dress accentuated her body and embraced her curves. But alas, the "tent" cut is not going to look good on anyone. Working with more yardage of fabric should not make you forget how to make a gorgeous dress.
