Oscar around town

The 2010 Oscars will be held on March 7th.

Now that award season is in full swing and Oscar nominations are a mere week away (Feb. 2nd), it's time to move this party to a warm, semi-comfortable theater seat and catch up with all the most prestigious and celebrated films of last year.  Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly (in their January 8th issue) has given us some insight into what films might make the now extended Oscar nomination cut.  Unlike previous years, this year's Oscars will showcase ten nominations for Best Picture, instead of the usual five.  Though some argue that this decision by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will dilute the honor of being nominated, there's at least one upside: five more reasons to go the movies

Entertainment Weekly has given us a list of The 25 Movies You Need to See Before Oscar Night :

  • Up in the Air
  • Avatar
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Precious
  • Inglourious Basterds
