Osborne-Paradis has momentum heading into Sochi

According to the Canadian Press, the men's downhill event at St. Moritz was cancelled on Saturday because of fog, but Canadian alpine skier Manuel Osborne-Paradis should enter the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi with some confidence.

That is because Osborne-Paradis of Vancouver finished a respectable fourth place in Thursday's training session. However Osborne-Paradis should realize there is a lot of work to be done and a training session for skiers is like an exhibition game for hockey players. At the end of the day, no one remembers the results.

The mere fact Osborne-Paradis had a fourth place finish in a practice run so close to the biggest event of his life, should give him some positive energy in what has been a somewhat disappointing season.

It is safe to say more was expected from Osborne-Paradis, but he does have two fourths, two sevenths an eighth and a tenth. That is good for 17th overall. While Erik Guay of Montreal, Quebec and Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Quebec are in the conversation to end Canada's 20 year drought without a medal in alpine skiing, it is safe to say that Osborne-Paradis deserves to be a footnote at this time.

The men's downhill will take place on February 9 at midnight.
