One of the interesting things regarding the Enneagram is when something extraordinary happens the positive traits and motivations comes shining through—perhaps simplistic in the execution, but a pure emotion of the important event.
May 1, 2011, the night President Obama (Type 9) came into the living rooms of the American people and announced the leader of Al-Qaeda was killed by the United States Navy SEALs in the middle of a city in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A reawaking of the spirit that makes this country great appeared in the streets all around the nation in celebration. The United States has long been known for the Self-starter mentality that is the fiber of us as a whole of our nation—wanting to be the best in all that we do. Never quitting until the job is done or won. Having pride is doing great; out shining those you compete with and lastly, showcase the image you want others around the world to see! Mission Accomplished.
The strength and power of the Three (Achiever) type
As we know there are nine core types that are displayed in life, it’s good to see a small picture view of what other types might be feeling. Though some are not into the act of killing, some might fear joy, sadness, powerful or numbness, waiting 10 long years of seeing this chapter completed. It’s good to reflect on being content in your own feelings. As an Enneagram Six, I was happy for America that he was dead, after all he killed thousands of innocence lives, but also a part of me was sadden by the act that President Obama had to make in taking another life for the freedom around the world. It was a good day for all and yet, perhaps we should be jubilant, that we are united together in many ideas and thoughts and can come together for a common goal. After all, we are the UNITED States of America.
What other types might we say/feel about the death of Osama Bin Laden
- Purist: It was just and the right thing to do to kill him, so as to not make him a martyr
- Assistant: If we are going to celebrate, perhaps I should volunteer to help?
- Self-starter: Let’s celebrate the victory of winning and taking out a cowardly dictator!
- Nonconformist: Wasn’t a lot of fanfare, would have liked to see the body
- Theorist: It’s was only a matter of time before he would have been caught, the odds were always in our favor.
- Doubter: I don’t believe he’s dead until I see him / I guess it’s good that he’s dead.
- Explorer: What a great way to go, out to sea amongst the stars…a good death.
- Supervisor: Finally, we crushed the bastard! You’re fired!
- Diplomat: It’s a new day and the start of moving into the future together, united. Now, if I can only get the House and the Senate to work together.
