ORWM ’13: Osprey expands its bike commuter line for Fall 2013

Dedicated bike commuters define themselves by their packs and panniers. I’m guilty of this. I didn’t think there was any way Osprey could improve the Momentum. Osprey clearly disagreed with this thinking because they did improve the Momentum for Fall 2013—along with debuting two new packs that are designed to handle the rigors of bike commuting: The Radial and the Spin.

Momentum: My go-to pack for daily commuting was updated with improved organization, performance and comfort. Gone is the old thermo-molded sculpted foam backpanel. It’s been replaced with the Osprey’s AirScape backpanel. Commuters in humid climates will LOVE this. I expect that I will love this. The Momemtum will come in 22-liter ($129) and 30-liter capacity ($139), and in two colors: The tried and true Carbide Grey and the new Atomic Orange.

Radial: This might be the Momentum on steroids. It has Osprey’s signature AirSpeed™ backpanel (the same backpanel used in their high-end, multi-day packs), a panel loader design, large main compartment with internal document sleeve, a mesh organization pocket as well as separate, top zip access to the laptop and tablet compartments. Additional organizational pockets include a front panel U-lock stretch pocket, stretch woven side pockets and a zippered, front panel, stash pocket with key clip. Available in 34-liter ($169) and 26-liter ($159) capacity and in two colors: Black and Mantis Green.

Spin: This flap-style bag comes with a quick access, hook closure, AirScape™ backpanel, a large, main compartment with laptop, tablet and document sleeves as well as a secure U-lock pocket and top stash pocket. For cool weather commute days or days when you need to carry extra gear, the side expansion zip adds an additional four liters in capacity. Available in 32-liter ($149) and 22-liter ($139) capacity and in two colors: Black and Hophead Red.

All three packs have an integrated high-visibility raincover, LidLock™ helmet clip, separate padded laptop sleeve and tablet sleeve, reflective details on the front panel, blinkie light attachment and front panel pocket with organizer.

All three packs will be available at retail in September.
