Oral Roberts University junior reliever Jordan Romano has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year mid-season watch list, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Romano has been one of the hot arms out of the Golden Eagle bullpen through the first 40 games of the season, recording a Southland Conference high nine saves and striking out 34 batters in 20 appearances.
A native of Markham, Ontario, Romano’s nine saves this season is the most by a Golden Eagle since Matt Rush earned nine during the 2011 season, and the sixth most in a single season in program history.
Finalists for the award will be selected following the completion of the regular season and will be released on Wednesday, June 4. The NCBWA’s All-America Committee will determine the winner, which will be announced during the 2014 College World Series.
Romano and the Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday as they travel to take on Southland co-leader Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a three-game set.
