ORU baseball has weekend series at La. Tech

The Oral Roberts University baseball team opens its first road series of the season, with a three-game set in Ruston, La., against Louisiana Tech., this evening at 6:30 p.m.

Last season, the Bulldogs made the trip to Tulsa for the first ever matchup between the two schools. The Golden Eagles took the first two games of that series, with the Bulldogs coming out on top on Sunday.

ORU enters the weekend coming off a tough loss at home against Wichita State. The Golden Eagles and Shockers battled back and forth, but the visitors eventually put a pair of late inning runs on the board for the 5-4 victory.

In their mid-week contest on Tuesday, the Bulldogs earned their first victory of the season at UALR, getting the best of the Trojans, 6-3. The Western Athletic Conference member was swept in their opening series of 2013 at UT-Arlington.

Through the first four games, junior transfer infielder Tyler Ervine leads the team at the plate with a .429 average. Holding the same average, catcher Jacob Derouen has one of just three extra base hits for the Bulldogs.

Game two of the series is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while game three will be Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
