According to TSN on Wednesday, the Calgary Flames defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1. It was a very meaningful game for Flames' goaltender Joni Ortio because he recorded the first victory of his National Hockey League career.

Flames rookie Sean Monahan and defenseman Mark Giordano led the Flames in scoring with two assists each. Calgary scored the first three goals of the contest and took a commanding three goal lead heading into the second intermission before the Senators and Flames each scored once in the final frame.

It was also a memorable game for another Finnish rookie for the Flames because centre Markus Granlund scored his first career National Hockey League goal to open the scoring at 2:04 of the first period from another Flames' young gun in Max Reinhart.

The Senators meanwhile seemed to be a tired bunch after just playing the night before in Edmonton, and losing that contest too by a score of 3-2. Ottawa is four points back of Columbus for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary next plays the New York Islanders on Friday. With the victory, the Flames are 13 points back of the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference for a playoff spot.
