Have you ever wondered how Tatiana Maslany, the star of the BBC's hit show “Orphan Black” acts against herself? The 28-year old actress who so convincingly portrays eight very different character clones on “Orphan Black” profusely thanks Kathryn Alexandre for this, reported Buzzfeed on April 24, 2014.
Kathryn Alexadre happens to be Maslany’s body double, but she’s proved to be so much more to Maslany. Alexandre acts opposite Maslany any time two or more of the clones act in a scene together, which if you’re an “Orphan Black” viewer you know this happens quite frequently. After Kathryn is done acting out the scenes, she is replaced by Maslany during post-production.
Tatiana Maslany said of Kathryn Alexadre during a Screen Actors Guild Foundation interview, “I could cry thinking about her… She’s so amazing. She memorizes all of the lines, all of my blocking, all of her blocking, my mannerisms, my impulses; she, somehow, memorizes all of that and gives it back to me with a performance I can play off of.”
“Orphan Black” has demonstrated its critical acclaim recently with its second-season debut last Saturday doubling its total viewer and 25-54 audience, according to Deadline.com. Alexandre understands this and considers her role on “Orphan Black” one of a lifetime, however unimportant this job may seem to some.
Even still, Alexandre will have her first on-screen appearance later this season on “Orphan Black”. You can keep an extra eye out for her in episode 9, where she will appear as a character of her own.
