Ormond Beach residents return home Sunday from brush fire evacuations

Residents west of Ormond Beach who had been evacuated due to the Durrance fire Saturday were allowed to return home Sunday, according to Volusia County officials. Joann Magley, Volusia County Community Information Manager, says the evacuation order for those residents was lifted Sunday and the 1100-acre fire was 75-percent contained. Residents were evacuated Saturday from an area “…on Durrance Lane east of Shedd Lane, Baja Trail, Warden Trail, Arabian Trail, Lipizzan Trail and Leeway Trail.”

Magley also says 130 firefighters from Volusia and Flagler County fire departments, along with the Florida Forest Service and “…all city fire departments are battling the brush fire.” The Florida Forest Service has widened cut lines to 20 to 30 feet to allow brush trucks to get further into the area and fight the fire. Fire officials are “…also urging people who need to drive in the area to give right of way to fire and rescue vehicles.”
