Orlando Magic trade for power forward Glen Davis

The Orlando Magic have agreed to trade power forward Brandon Bass to the Boston Celtics for power forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

Davis (6-9, 290) comes to Orlando in a sign-and-trade deal, per the Orlando Sentinel, which talked to Bass’ agent, Tony Dutt.

"We've had two or three conversations this morning," Dutt told  the Sentinel. "He understands the business side of it. It's tough because he really, really likes Orlando. It's part of the business, unfortunately. I'm very close with [Boston's]Danny [Ainge]. At the end of the day, if Orlando doesn't want him, he's a valuable player. He's a valuable asset to any team that he plays for. I don't want to say I'm disappointed, but I'm disappointed on one side. I'm happy for Brandon that he'll be in a position to play for a championship.”

Bass was acquired by the Magic as a free agent in 2009 and became a full-time starter for Orlando last year after the team traded Rashard Lewis.

His play was somewhat erratic though, averaging 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 51 starts last season. He was ‘No Pass Bass’ because of his knack for jacking up jump shots as soon as he got the ball.

Orlando does get an equally erratic player back for Bass though. Davis—25-years old—averaged 11.7 points per game and 5.4 rebounds in 2011. Like Bass, his deffense is subpar and he's an inconsistent jump shooter. Although he lacks Bass’ athleticism and offensive prowess, Davis can offer intensity and a pension for hustling, which the Magic lack.

Davis has agreed to a four-year, $26 million deal in the sign-and-trade, according to Yahoo Sports.

Dwight Howard listed Davis as a player he would on the Magic, so this move can be seen as a last-ditch effort by general manager Otis Smith to keep Howard happy.
