Orlando jumps ahead early, falls in the end

The Orlando Magic could not have dreamed of a better start Sunday night against the Dallas Mavericks. They raced out to an 18-4 lead early in the first quarter. That was about all that went right for them on the night though, as the Mavericks stormed back to lead 26-24 at the end of the first quarter. From there the Magic were able to keep it close most of the night, but would go on to lose 111-105. That makes 10 out of the last 12 games the Magic have given up over 100 points.

Glen "Big Baby" Davis had his best game since returning from a shoulder injury. He scored a game high 24 points, secured six rebounds, dished out six assists, blocked a shot, and even had two steals. Nik Vucevic had another double double, posting 14 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Jameer Nelson continued his push to be an all star reserve, scoring 20 points, with six rebounds, and five assists. J.J. Redick may even be able to make a case as an all star this season. He continued to provide a lift for the Magic off the bench, scoring 18 points while adding four rebounds and assists of his own.

The Mavericks were led by Shawn Marion. He posted a double double scoring 20 points and adding 10 rebounds. All five starters for the Mavericks scored in double figures, but the biggest boost was off the bench. After going down big early in the game, Vince Carter and Elton Brand came off the bench to score 15 and 14 points respectively. Those 29 of the 40 total bench points outscored the whole Magic bench, 28. The Mavericks shot 50% from the field and over 50% from three point land. Again the Magic seemed to be out hustled on the floor as Dallas held the edge in fast break points 22 to 10.

The Magic look to Tuesday night as a potential turning point for them. With Big Baby getting back into form and a trip to lowly Detroit it is the perfect time to make a run going into the all star break. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
