On September 11th 2001 the world as we knew it suddenly and jarringly changed. Almost 3,000 families lost loved ones who were killed when four hijacked jets crashed into the world trade center, the Pentagon and a western Pennsylvania field. In the ten years since, we have lived in a new world paradigm which has focused on that tiny minority who would attack out way of life because of their ignorance, extremist views and religious intolerance.
We honor the memories of those we lost, and there are many ways to honor the firefighters and first responders who gave their lives in the line of duty on that day in New York City.
Here in Florida, James Love, a third-generation firefighter and co-founder of the Orlando-based Black Helmet, a line of clothing, equipment and accessories created by firefighters, is reaching out to help the families of the fallen heroes.
He recently launched a line of made in Miami 9-11 Tribute Tees to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that tragic day, with a portion of all revenue generated from sales of the Tribute Tees donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Black Helmet also supports several other charities, including the FDNY Foundation and the September 11th Families' Association.
The Tribute tees were created and launched this year in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. As for the portions being donated to charity, Black Helmet is donating 1% of total revenue to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The contributions to charities through the Tees and ongoing donations are some examples of what Love is doing while encouraging others to do the same.
Love even hand draws all of the unique featured designs on these meaningful and moving tees.
