The faces and names are familiar, Duke Crider (lead vocals, guitar), Luis Mejia (guitar/keys) and Paul McCorkell (bass), but the band name, Our Wild Love, and the music, “Low,” is different than music fans are used to when they see those names. “The name Our Wild Love actually came to me right after a nap,” said Duke Crider in a recent email interview. “It sounds cliché, but I woke up and wrote it down. PJA (Plain Jane Automobile) had been going strong for ten years and we got home from our last tour and decided we wanted to take a break. Our drummer, James Dickens, went back to school, and we just didn’t have the energy to start over with someone new. We all went back and forth really struggling with the idea of not playing music together. It really was a strong pull, this wild love that we couldn’t walk away from, so we started Our Wild Love.”
With Our Wild Love the band members have created a different sound for their music. “The first noticeable difference in sound is no drummer, at least not in the traditional human sense,” said Crider. “We have taken the best things about PJA and added drum loops, iPad’s keyboards and strings and twisted things. Sometimes it’s dancey sometimes it’s really dark and haunting. It’s much more free and loose. Hopefully it translates well. At the end of the day, it’s still passionate, and real and us.”
With the band’s return to making music, they have returned to Kickstarter to make a new record happen. As Plain Jane Automobile, they had a successful Kickstarter campaign for their last studio CD “Your Tomorrow” and now they hope to have the same success with Our Wild Love’s debut EP fundraiser. “We have such passionate fans and they understand that we work hard everyday to keep making music. We have always put every penny and drop of sweat we have into making our music. When someone invests some of their hard earned money into our project, we know it’s because they love what we do.”
The band’s Kickstarter campaign is well on its way, but will only be funded if they reach their $6800 goal by Saturday, April 6. Music fans can pledge to their Kickstarter funding project here. The campaign’s backers earn rewards for the different amounts they pledge including digital downloads, limited edition signed and numbered physical CDs, limited edition t-shirts, with the top package including all those plus handwritten lyrics and a 20 minute Skype concert.
“There will be shows following the recording,” said Crider. “With these new songs, and no live drummer, playing live will be different than what we are accustomed to. Fleshing out the songs in the studio will really determine how we play live. It’s sort of scary and exciting to relearn how to do something we have been doing for years.”
Our Wild Love has a Facebook page and as always, the band can be found on their Plain Jane Automobile official site, Facebook page and Twitter feed. Music fans can listen to and download their new single “Low” on the band’s Bandcamp page.
