Orlando band Melodic Dissent’s good vibes

“One love! All we want is for our fans to have a good time, enjoy the show and go home happy,” said the members of Melodic Dissent in a recent email interview. “[There are] too many stresses in the world so we like to let our music fill you with good vibes.”

Melodic Dissent is an Orlando based reggae band. The band members, Larry Wells (guitar/vocals), Mike Cunningham (tenor saxophone/backup vocals), David Whitmore (bass) and Scott Wright (percussion) name several musical influences ranging from The Dirty Heads, Sublime, Bob Marley and Slightly Stooped as well as a local Orlando band Hor!zen.

The band’s name comes from the way they have of describing their sound. “We get told we have a different sound compared to other bands, so Melodic Dissent [means] melody different than normal. We cover all different genres of songs and put our reggae twist to them.”

The band has worked to perfect their distinctive sound. “We use only hand drums for our percussion and pride ourselves on our harmonies for vocals. Acoustic guitar and saxophone mixed with hand percussion and a heavy bassline makes for great reggae vibes.”

The members of Melodic Dissent are big fans of the cohesiveness of the local Orlando music scene. “There are a lot of big name and local talented musicians that play all over Orlando. Everyone shows love and supports each other in the community.”

The band is currently in the studio working on their second CD. Most of the songs on the new CD are cover songs, but there will be one or two original songs on it as well. They hope to release it within the next month.

Melodic Dissent have several upcoming shows – on March 1 they have a show at Bubbalou’s (UCF), March 2 they will be at The West End Trading Company in Sanford, on March 16 they are one of the live bands featured at the St. Patrick’s Day Music Fest at the Belle Isle Yacht Pub and on May 4 they are one of the live bands scheduled at the Zombie Run Central Florida 2013 at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
