Looking for something to do February 23rd 2013 at 8:30pm in Olympia? The Olympic Ballroom is hosting a musical event by Orkestar Zirkonium and Erev Rav.
Orkestar Zirkonium a thirteen member Seattle-based brass-and-drum ensemble with Balkan inspired music with original compositions as well as songs from Eastern Europe’s brass band tradition.
The Zirkonium members come from a variety of bands including Sigourney Reverb, the Infernal Noise Brigade, The Annie Ford Band, Circus Contraption and other groups.
Orkestar Zirkonium plays songs that are drawn from a variety of musical genre sources such as: punk, funk, hip hop, Klezmer, Ethiopian jazz, Eastern European/Roma brass as well as others.
Erev Rav is a klezmer orchestra whose music is blended with other genres of music such as bee bop, funk, Latin rhythm, reggae as well as rock. Erev Rav translates from Hebrew as 'Mixed Multitude'.
The band members range from a virtuosic clarinet and flute player with a 40+ year career to a federal chaplain for a medical response team of disasters, to a mezzo-soprano and violinist and more.
Music From Olympia: Anna Oxygen
Anna Oxygen, also known as Anna Huff, is a musician from Olympia, Washington.
The genre of her music has been listed as electropop, electronic, indie, electro-dance, psychedelic and indie pop.
Anna Oxygen graduated in 1999 from The Evergreen State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and started her career with the novelty synth-pop, post-punk group the Space Ballerinas, who released two EPs named “Diamonds” and “If Goth Was Pink” before the group disbanded in 2001.
Anna’s solo career started in 2002 after she moved to Seattle and recorded the album ‘All Your Faded Things’ with such songs called ‘Mine All Mine’, ‘Primary Colors’, ‘Scientist’ ‘Spectacle’ and others.
She is also a member of a performance art group known as Cloud-Eye Control and has in the past given lectures, won awards and grants and as having done sound composition and design for video, film and theater.
Anna currently lives in Los Angeles.
