During the Sept. 13 Baltimore Orioles’ win against the Toronto Blue Jays, O’s’ first baseman Chris “Crusher” Davis propelled his landmark fiftieth home run of the season over the left center field fence of the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
With his most recent homer, Davis tied the Orioles’ franchise record of 50 homers in a single season, and has now joined former Orioles’ outfielder and Md. native Brady Anderson who nailed his fiftieth homer on the final game of the regular season in 1996, coincidentally also in Toronto.
Davis’ home run last night put the O’s ahead of Toronto with a 4 - 3 lead. The O’s went on to win last night with a final score of 5 – 3.
"I've said it all along, it's nice to have personal goals and to reach your own goals, but when the team is winning, that's what makes it that much sweeter," said Davis, whose first thought when connecting with the ball was that he had just given the Orioles the lead, realizing only later that it was home run No. 50. ~ MLB
Davis now leads the MLB in homers and is batting .296 on the season.
Thanks to modern technology, we can watch all of Davis’ 50 homers from this year in one spectacularly edited video.
As of today, the Baltimore Orioles remain 2 1/2 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the race for the Wild Card.
