Attending youth baseball and softball openers for local teams has been a tradition since the Orioles arrived in Sarasota for 2010 Spring Training. On Saturday, February 16, the Oriole Bird will participate in Opening Day ceremonies for two little leagues, one in Sarasota and one in Venice, and two more youth baseball openings in March.

The Oriole Bird will open the Sarasota Little League season with an appearance on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Twin Lakes Park at 6700 Clark Road in Sarasota.

Following the Sarasota Little League kickoff, the Oriole Bird will fly to Venice for the 10:30 a.m. opening of the Venice Little League season at 250 Fort Street in Venice.

On March 2, the Oriole Bird will participate in the opening day festivities of the Cal Ripken Baseball League from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at 2801 12th Street in Sarasota.

On March 16, the Oriole Bird will help launch the 2013 Miracle League of Manasota season with an appearance from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Longwood Run Park at 6050 Longwood Run Boulevard in Sarasota.

Pitchers and catchers have been working out at Orioles spring training complex at Ed Smith Stadium since last Monday. Beginning next week, position players will head to Sarasota to begin full team workouts.

The first spring training game is scheduled for Saturday February 23 when the Orioles host the Minnesota Twins at Ed Smith Stadium at 1:05 p.m.
