Original Barris TV Batmobile sells for amazing $4.2 million at Barrett-Jackson

The original 1966 Barris Batmobile just sold for an amazing $4,200,000 at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction tonight.

Based on Lincoln's fabulous 1955 Futura concept car built by Ghia, George Barris famously modified the dream car into the 1966 TV Batmobile in a furious 3 week blitz in order to meet Fox's shooting schedule.

There's been many replicas built, but the Barris car has been owned by Barris Kustom City since the early 1960s when George bought the Lincoln Futura from Ford Motor Company for $1. Barris let the dream car rot behind his shop for several years, until 20th Century Fox came calling with a rush order.

Barrett-Jackson is widely recognized as the super bowl of car auctions, it's a natural fit for the auctioneers to offer this American icon, one of the most beloved cars in all autodom, the 1966 Barris TV Batmobile.
