Orient-Express Maroma Resort and Spa creates new sensory experience

While the Kinan Spa is the highlight of Orient-Express Maroma Resort and Spa the resort has cooked up a new dining concept, Aldea Maya (which means “Mayan Village”), designed to immerse guests in the sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and feelings of ancient Mayan culture. The restaurant is a true culinary destination and provides even the most seasoned travelers and foodies with an incredibly authentic cultural experience.

A little paradise set amongst the lush jungle and white sand beaches of the Rivera Maya, the Kinan Spa offers a holistic approach for rejuvenation of mind and body. Treatments range from Botox to body therapiesand beyond. To further enhance the spa experience the resort is offering themed menus, inspired by the four basic elements thought to be building blocks of the universe. Using only locally-sourced ingredients, dishes such as Black Bean Stew with Sour Cactus Fruit Salsa and the Lion Fish cooked with a Banana Leaf and a Mint, Tomatillo and Local Citrus Salsa are prepared over an open flame using clay pots and pans to recreate the unique flavors of ancient Mayan cuisine.

In keeping with the Orient-Express commitment to protecting the environments and cultures of its diverse destinations, a portion of the Aldea Maya proceeds will be used to create and promote ecological and educational programs that will directly benefit the local Mayan communities.

“Our daily contact with today's Mayan People has given us the opportunity to participate in the economic, social, cultural and ecological development of the communities in a responsible and respectful manner. We seek supplier partnerships that share our concern for social responsibility and the environment. We compose our own food waste to be used as valuable soil for our plants and we are striving to reduce water and electricity consumption,” said Federico Echaiz, general manager of Maroma Resort and Spa.

Nestled along Mexico’s Riviera Maya, the 64-room Maroma Resort and Spa (www.maromahotel.com) is a luxurious hideaway built by hand in the tradition of the Mexican haciendas where personal service, warm hospitality and privacy are unsurpassed.
