Orgy first made their mark on the music industry in 1997 when they were signed to Korn’s Elementree Records and one year later, released their stellar debut album, Candyass. This album fulfilled the demand at the time for something new, thus bridging and expanding the, then narrow, industrial/alt metal gap lingering in the music industry. Candyass introduced the industry to hit songs “Stitches” and New Order cover “Blue Monday.” With Candyass hitting the scene, the band hit the road, making their debut appearance in Tulsa, OK at EdgeFest. This would prove to be only the beginning for Orgy, as they stormed their way through the Family Values Tour with KORN, Limp Bizkit and Incubus as well.
In 2000, Vapor Transmissions, the band’s second release hit the airwaves with hits like “Fiction (Dreams in Digital)” and “Opticon.” Orgy would go on to do side projects including television show appearances, movie soundtrack contributions, and personal pet projects (Julien-K), and even a slightly lesser known third release, Punk Statik Paranoia, in 2004. The trouble the band encountered with Punk was that there was a large disparity between it and the previous two albums; it lacked the industrial/electronica undercurrent that had carried Candyass and Vapor Transmissions to success. Instead, Punk Statik Paranoia featured a much heavier sound and more severe vocals, including screaming, than its predecessors.
Then there was nothing until founding member and vocalist, Jay Gordon, surfaced to announce that he had intentions of resurrecting the band in 2011. In early 2012, Gordon along with a new line-up, former members of Deadsy, Snot, and Run Run Run, went on a short run tour under the name “Orgy,” thus giving fans what they had been demanding for almost a decade. They followed this up in August of 2012 with the release of their latest song “Grime of the Century.” For any true Orgy fan, this song brings back memories of Candyass while still managing to give a little something new and fresh from the “death pop” pioneers.
Now, it seems that they will be hitting the road with shock rock/Goth metal comrades Davey Suicide and Vampires Everywhere! in the newly coined “Wide Awake and Dead Tour.” The tour is scheduled to stop in at upstate rock sanctuary Ground Zero on March 16, 2013. So, get your cash ready for when tickets go on sale, because Orgy is back and you are not going to want to miss this!
