Children learn self reliance when they are able to help with chores. One main chore is keeping their bedroom clean. There are ways to keep kids’ spaces organized so children can keep them clean. By keeping a child’s room organized, children understand where things belong and are more able to help. A helpful hint to keep clutter to a minimum is to never leave a room without taking something to where it belongs; children can be taught to do this also. Organizational bins and organizer assessories are at many places in San Antonio: Crate and Barrel, Dollar Tree, and The Container Store, to name a few. Nursery Couture has an animal bag which doubles as seating (made by Boon).
Organizational ideas
- Dress up clothes on hooks with coordinated accessories
- A second clothes rod at waist level so that clothes are accessible to children
- Storage bins for stuffed animals and Legos
- Hanging plastic shoe organizers for art supplies or small toys
- Underbed shoe organizer for larger toys
- Books on book shelves or organize them in stacked milk crates
- Shelving units with pull out bins for blocks, cars and dinosaurs
- Labeled bins can be put in clothing organizers and hung in closets; add a picture for young children
- Label kids clothing drawers
Tuck away toys that aren’t used as often, and put the most used toys on shelves. Children can learn responsibility and self reliance by helping to put their things where they belong. Don’t forget to create a donation station to collect things no longer played with for others to enjoy. One last thing to help is adding a 10 minute “tidy up” before bedtime. Here’s to a clean room!
