For the benefit of those new to nudist culture, an explanation of “organized nudity” might be helpful and informative. Nudists and naturists in the United States are represented by two national organizations, the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS). Both are grassroots, membership-based organizations that seek to educate, inform and encourage participation in traditional nudist culture.

These national organizations also do much towards protecting the rights of nudists to practice the lifestyle without interference by seeking to educate, inform and influence legislatures and by initiating litigation where appropriate when the rights of nudists to access public lands that have traditionally been used by nudists are threatened.

Since there is so much information to be covered, in the interest of brevity, the focus of this article will be AANR and a future article will be devoted to TNS.

AANR local organization

AANR, headquartered in Kissimmee, Florida, is organized geographically into seven regions to provide a local presence throughout the country. Dallas is a part of the AANR Southwestern Region (AANR-SW), headquartered in Port Arthur, Texas. An estimated 2,000 nudists in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana are members of AANR-SW. The region includes over twenty resorts and clubs in Texas and Oklahoma including the seven landed and non-landed clubs right here in the Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex.

Purpose of AANR-SW

AANR-SW oversees the resorts, landed clubs and non-landed clubs in the southwestern region to ensure compliance with standards that promote confidence that the clubs and resorts are operated according to traditional nudist values and are safe and family-friendly venues for the enjoyment of wholesome social nudity and nude recreation. While all the clubs and resorts in the Dallas area are owned and operated by individuals, they must agree to abide by AANR standards as a condition of being affiliated with AANR. As a result, those who visit AANR-SW resorts and clubs need not fear unwanted sexual advances, harassment by voyeurs or the presence of sexual predators.

Benefits of membership

While certainly it is not necessary to join any organization to be a part of nudist culture and to practice the nudist lifestyle, there are a number of real benefits available to those who choose to join AANR.

  • Members enjoy a 20 percent discount off regular visitor fees when visiting any of the more than 270 AANR-affiliated resorts and clubs in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Membership includes a subscription to the AANR monthly newspaper, The Bulletin that contains announcements of club events, nudist profiles and information on regional and national events.
  • Membership includes coupons, currently valued at $600, which can be redeemed for savings when visiting participating clubs and resorts.
  • AANR membership includes complimentary membership in the International Naturists Federation (INF).
  • AANR members enjoy discounts on car rentals at most major car rental agencies and discounts from businesses life 1-800-flowers.com and the Aflac Insurance Company.

Memberships may be purchased through one of the AANR-SW affiliated resorts or clubs or directly through AANR. There are rates for singles, couples and students ages 18 to 25. AANR membership is a great way to support Dallas nudist culture and to experience some real savings when visiting AANR affiliated clubs.

Thanks for your insightful articles. People tend to forget that clothes are a punishment for the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden and that nudity is our natural God-created state. Whenever we put on clothes, we are like Hester putting on her Scarlett Letter declaring our shame and sin to the world. I wish I had the courage to take off my clothes in public and to cast off such shame and vestiges of sin.

Great article about nudity, and the organizations that help protect our rights to enjoy social nudity in the appropiate settings.
