On November 2, 2011, Attorney General Greg Abbot released a statement that Mexico's drug gangs and violence has become a major crime issue in Texas. In the state of Missouri, numerous gang related homicides, shooting incidents and arrests have been reported from St. Louis to Kansas City by authorities. The criminal activities attributed to St. Louis organized gangs has added to the title, the "Most Violent City in America".
Battles for "turf" neighborhoods and against rivals have been a known factor since the late 1950s. There are 85 police identified gangs in St. Louis which include the "Bloods" and "Crips" who originated in Los Angeles, California. Immigrants, legal and illegal from other countries comprise 14 independant street gangs.
48 per cent of crimes from assault, drug trafficking, extortion, home invasion robberies, intimidation to homicides are linked to these groups. Nationwide many gangs are involved with human trafficking and prostitution. St. Louis with 1.3 million residents is a consumer market, distribution center for cocaine, heroin, marijuana and meth. The St. Louis pipeline extends to other states including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and destinations north. Narcotics are supplied by Mexican Drug Traffic Organizations operating in the border states.
The 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment from the F.B.I. listed the largest organized crime drug cartels in Mexico.The cadres were Los Zetas, Sinaloa, Gulf, Juarez, Tijuana, Beltran Leyva, Carillo Fuentes and La Familia Michoacana. http://www.fbi.gov.stats-services/publications/2011-national-gang-threat-assessment- With 1.4 million street, prison, and outlaw biker gang members in the United States many served in the military. These included Asian Boyz, Bloods, Crips, Gangster Disciples, Latin Kings, M-S 13, to Bandidos, Hell's Angels, Mongols, Outlaws and Vagos among 53 identified organizations.
