The efforts to keep jazz alive in Northern California take many forms. Here are two organizations doing their part and worthy of your attention and support.
Friends of Big Band Jazz (FBBJ) is a California 501(c)3 corporation whose mission is to perpetuate big band jazz music as an American art form. We accomplish this by supporting an annual series of public concerts of a 19-piece jazz band (the Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra), and from the proceeds of these performances and the sales of the band's CDs, support young musician jazz education.
Proceeds from our Friends of Big Band Jazz Membership, Sponsor a Musician Program and from ticket sales plus the funding from our Bronze, Silver and Gold Member contributors, have enabled our organization to do great things in the world of jazz and jazz education, such as giving scholarships to deserving students for various Jazz Summer Camps, being a sponsor of the tours of the Stan Kenton Alumni Band Being a sponsor of the Prescott, Arizona Jazz Summit and Student Workshops, sponsoring free concerts for music students and sponsoring performances and workshops by our musicians in schools. Please make a tax deductible donation.
The mission of the Nor–Cal Jazz Festival is to promote all facets of Jazz Music throughout the Northern California Region creating greater visibility for both the music and performers and to support youth jazz programs. Nor-Cal Jazz will award scholarships in each location to insure our goal of supporting youth jazz programs. The Nor-Cal Jazz Festival is a non-profit project in cooperation with Upstate Community Enhancement Foundation (Friends of the Arts) - a 501c3 non-profit corporation.
