Today we examine the foremost national organization for speaking professionals – the National Speakers Association (NSA).
This is the third in a series listing the various non-profit national training, educational, and speaking organizations that any training and development professional should be familiar with. The first two articles showcased ASTD and ASCD.
The National Speakers Association is the foremost organization for professional speakers in the United States. Founded in 1973, NSA provides speakers with resources and education designed to advance the skills, integrity and value of its members and speaking profession.
NSA's thousands of members include experts in a variety of industries and disciplines, who reach audiences as trainers, educators, humorists, motivators, consultants, authors and more. NSA is a member of the International Federation for Professional Speaking (IFFPS), a global network dedicated to advancing the speaking profession worldwide.
Unlike most learning professional organizations, NSA has stringent membership requirements. New members must prove that they are viable, professional speakers before to be eligible for membership.
For learning professionals interested in a professional speaking career, NSA’s Academy for Professional Speaking is designed to help emerging speakers get started in the business. Many NSA chapters also offer presentation skills training as well as programming for those interested speaking careers.
NSA also offers a certified speaking professional designation (CSP). This designation signifies achievement through a proven record of speaking experience; including a minimum number of fee-paid presentations, continuing education credits and consecutive years of professional speaking experience.
NSA has 40 state and regional independently run NSA chapters throughout the United States, including the NSA-Central Florida chapter that this Examiner has been a member of for several years.
