At the start of every year it seems there is some new, hot health or fitness trend that gets enthusiasts fired up. Recently, organic cold-pressed juice cleanses have been making news. They claim to detoxify your system, energize your body, and even allow you to shed weight in a just a few days’ time.
Cleansing is nothing new. Dieters and the health conscious alike have been creating concoctions attempting to purify the body for many years. Cleanses of the past, however, usually were hard to swallow as they were loaded with foul flavor combinations of vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
The juice cleanses that are popping up today have been improved. No longer does one have to suffer to obtain optimal health. Improved combinations of flavors allow for a more pleasant juicing experience. Juices containing combinations of kale, spinach, garlic, cayenne pepper, celery, parsley, carrot, and other ingredients have been formulated in such a way that they actually have an appealing flavor, making it much easier to adhere to cleansing for 1-7 days, based on the cleaning program one chooses. Juices range in price from about $8 to $11 each and you will consume 6-8 drinks per day.
Juice cleanses claim to detoxify and hydrate your body by having you drink a number of specified juice drinks each day for a series of days. No food is consumed during a juice cleanse. The juices, simply put, are a raw source of vitamins and minerals. By consuming these juices, according to their makers, one receives other benefits that include improved circulation, balanced pH, replenished electrolytes, and elimination of waste that may build up in the body.
Cleanses can be purchased online. BluePrint has been dominating the cleanse world for several years. Yoga Basin, located in Asbury Park, N.J. offers a variety of cold-pressed organic juice cleanses that will ship from their location. If online purchases are not for you, Yoga Basin’s Basin Bar Cleanse can be purchased locally at d*Fit, a personal training and group fitness studio in Montclair.
Cleansing is not for everyone. It requires dedication and discipline; however, many who participate in cleansing say the reward far outweighs the sacrifice. Remember to always consult your physician before making any changes to your diet or fitness routine.
