Organic Farm offers gardening lessons for children with autism

The Treehugger Organic Farms in Davie Florida have only been in operation for less than a year and already have a huge following of local supporters as well as providing a hands on learning experience for children with autism. Fabiola Ana Torrez , President of the Autism Society of Broward meets with parents and children weekly at Treehugger Organic Farms to learn about farming, beginning with seedlings to preparing the soil.
Originally a palm tree farm, many of the palms on Treehugger Organic Farms have been turned to mulch to prepare for the transformation of a diverse permaculture food forest. A man-made pond surrounded by dense, plump cattails provides the irrigation; manure from local horse farms provides an ideal compost base. Bamboo plants donated by a farm in Arcadia, Florida are thriving in pots waiting the time when they will be planted on the perimeter of the 4.8 acres.

In April, the End of Season Market Fair at Treehugger Organic Farms brought locals, organic vendors, live music and a community potluck after the sun went down.
