About Fair Indigo and Fair Trade
The owners of Fair Indigo left jobs with major clothing brands to start their own company dedicated to fair trade, or the idea of paying the producers of apparel items a fair wage. Instead of paying low wages to increase its profit margin, Fair Indigo makes sure to pay its workers fairly so that they can live comfortably and meet their needs and the needs of their families. It has also set up the Fair Indigo Foundation, a non-profit organization with the mission of improving the communities in which Fair Indigo's products are made.
Fair Indigo Organic Cotton Joobles™ Collection
This line of baby clothes and knit dolls is designed and manufactured to support fair trade and be eco-friendly. The items are made from soft organic cotton yarn (organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic pesticides or other harmful chemicals) and eco-friendly dyes. They are produced in Peru in a sustainable, family-friendly, and environmentally friendly way – the father of the family grows the cotton, while the mother runs the sewing co-op that makes them.
Each brightly colored animal character (giraffe, penguin, dog, bear, cow, bunny, bee bug, cat, and monkey) comes on a cardigan, on a bib, as a hat and mitten set, as a T-shirt and pants set, and as a stuffed knit Joobles™ doll. The adorable clothes give Gymboree baby clothes a run for their money!
Dye-free organic cotton baby clothes and doll
Fair Indigo also produces a line of organic dye-free baby clothes. The fabric is made without the use of bleaches or dyes, and any designs added are screen-printed using an eco-friendly process. (Some of the coordinating pants in this line do use gentle, safe dyes.)
A "bare bear" stuffed doll will be released as part of this line. It, too, will be made from 100% organic cotton yarn that has never been treated with dyes or bleaches.
How to buy Fair Indigo organic fair trade clothes and toys
Chicago parents looking for "style with a conscience" can purchase free trade clothes and dolls at the Fair Indigo Web site. They also sell other fair trade items like men's and women's clothes, jewelry, and reusable shopping bags.
