Organic diets becoming more mainstream

According to the Gallup Daily News, in an article dated, August 7, 45% of Americans in the US try and include organic foods into their daily diets, actively seeking organics out. While 15% actively try and avoid organics and 38% don't think about it either way. More and more people are seeking out organics because the word is getting out about the health benefits of an organic diet. Anytime you are not eating dangerous chemicals on your food, including, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides, it is easy to understand that your body will be healthier and you will reap the rewards of all that comes with a healthier body.

Some people report better skin, better eyes sight, better mental health, more energy, sustained energy throughout the day, an ending to a health problem that used to be an issue. These are just a few of the reports that those who switch to an all organic diet are known to report after sticking with it a while. After the body is flushed of all the chemicals that come from eating conventional food, the body begins to change and become healthier. Energy levels rise and it is easier to sustain this energy throughout the day no matter what your day or night holds.

The Gallup reports, "In the U.S., inclusion of organic foods is highest in the West (54%) and lowest in the East (39%). Americans who report living in a big or small city are more likely to eat organic foods than those who describe their location as a town or rural area, 50% versus 37%, respectively, while those who live in suburban areas fall between these two groups." Part of this reason is because, basically, people can only eat what is available. From experience, living in a small rural town makes it very hard to eat organic.

Reason for this is simple, it's just not available. We all understand that the biggest retailer/grocery store in the US seems to pop up all over the place even in rural areas where there is not much competition and then there is just no way any other grocery store will thrive. Unfortunately Walmart does not actively try and stock their shelves with more organics than conventional food. Although, in recent years, Walmart has added more organics and non genetically modified (GMO) foods to their shelves, it's still not enough that Americans can stock their home pantries with all organic food.

We can see that the demand it rising. There are more people in 2014 eating organics and seeking them out than ever before in history. Restaurants are slow to change over their menus, if they even think about it at all, but we do see companies such as Whole Foods Market and Chipotles making a move towards a larger offering of organic and non GMO foods, which is just great. When we look at the age groups of those that are making the move towards a more organic diet we can see that just as the organic movement is new, so is the age group that most likely supports it.

According to the Gallup, "More than half of 18- to 29-year-old Americans actively try to include organic foods in their diets, compared with one-third of Americans who are 65 and older. Older Americans are slightly more likely than other age groups to "think either way" about organic foods." With statistics like these, it seems safe to say, the organic movement is in full motion and an organic diet is more mainstream than it ever has been.
