Jessica Dutro, a 25-year-old Oregon woman, is on trial for murdering her 4-year-old son. According to a report by the Associated Press on March 27, a prosecutor in the case said Dutro’s motive was because she believed her son was gay.

Dutro was apparently so angry at her son that she severely beat him, causing him to collapse at the homeless shelter where his family was living. Zachary died in August 2012.

The key evidence in the case is a Facebook message Dutro wrote to her boyfriend Brian Canady in which Dutro told him that her son was “facing the wall” because he made her so angry.

In the message she also expressed her perception that her 4-year-old son was going to be gay because “he walks and talks like it.” She then said Canady would have to “work on” Zachary.

According to prosecutor Megan Johnson the messaged established a pattern of verbal and physical abuse suffered by all of Dutro’s children. Zachary was the recipient of the harshest treatment.

The judge in the case also ruled that any Internet searches done by Dutro were also admissible as evident in the case. On the day Zachary was taken off of life support, Dutro made searches on the Internet that involved key words such as anger management and parenting classes.

Dutro obviously knew she had an issue with abuse, unfortunately for Zachary, who died of blunt-force trauma to his abdomen, she didn’t seek or find help soon enough.

Dutro is also being charged with murder by abuse and second-degree assault. Canady pleaded guilty to manslaughter for his participation in the homicide.
